Search Engine On Page Optimization

On Page Search Engine Optimization is a basic method we should perform if we want to have a better search engine ranking.

Although there are other methods to perform (others I will discuss next time). Performing on page optimization is a very good practice, specially for those who are just starting out as webmasters.

On Page optimization steps include.

1. Keyword should be in your Domain Name - This declares to the search engine how pertinent you content is to the keyword it is looking for.

2. Put you keywords in the page title - The page title shows up on top of the browser window. Including keywords here will add relevance of the keyword to your content, atleast that's the way search engines see it. The title is defined inside the head markup.

3. Site navigation - This is another important thing. You should create page links within your site. Professionals usually put a site map on top of their pages and another navigation menu on the bottom. Also, most pages show a "HOME" link.

Another trend today is putting in TAG CLOUDS, these are groups of keywords displayed in pages in cloud formation. Clicking one of the keywords will bring you to a page in the site where the word is contained. Somehow I always feel it is awkward but you'll get extra points from search engines by this.

4. META Tags - Although search engines will check relevancy of the keywords you specify in the meta tag against your contents, placing META tags is still a good practice. Also the description is what the search engines use in displaying your link in search results.

5. Content Optimization - You should be able to write "enough content" on every page of your site. Not too many and also not too little. A good page will be about 300 to 400 words. Make sure your keywords is mentioned about 2 to 3 times in the content. Make sure that you do this on a "flowing" manner. You don't want to sound too pushy with your keywords. In this article I mentioned "ON PAGE OPTIMIZATION" three times including this one.

6. Image tag - place some of your keywords in alt tags when placing images.

Ex. img src="http://whereever.com/images/icon.gif" alt="LOGO FOR KEYWORD" width="100" height="200"

7. W3C Mark-up validation service - A lot of people don't know this service is available. It is freely provided. It will check if your HTML conforms to the set standards. Having your code checked will enable you to correct and make necessary adjustments, making it easier for the search engines to crawl through.

All of this can be automatically performed. I use a superb tool for this. You may download it by clicking on the big banner on the right, or please visit our sponsor.
